Etymology : Buttinsky seems to have arrived in the English language most recently through the blending of “butt in,” a colloquialism meaning ‘an interruption or interference in another’s affairs.’ This certainly is synonymous to an interpretation of ‘force one’s opinions in,’ thus making it seem likely the root ‘butt’ is derived from the Middle English “butten,” further derived from the Old French ‘bouter,’ meaning ‘to strike.’
