Etymology : Rose has a very complex etymological history, coming to English through Old French from Latin. While the color associated with the plant is the meaning referenced in the above word, the ‘original’ word may have been the Etruscan Greek form of declaring that which had came from Rhodes. ‘Ac’ is more easily glossed, the Latin root referring to the extremities affected. The final –a forms a noun.
