Internets

noun; derivation
The Internet. US Presidential Debates, second debate on 2004-10-08. President Bush said “I hear there’s rumors on the internets”. [Video: http://www.jokaroo.com/ecards/funny/bushinternets.html] It is obvious he meant to use the word “Internet”, but people find it hilarious he made a speech error of that sort (a Bushism, which is its own new linguistic word!). As a result, many of my friends have in reference to the Internet, jokingly called it “the internets”. His blunder has become a sort of Internet pop culture joke, and many web pages can be found on the topic if one searches for “Bush internets” on Google.

I hear there’s rumors on the internets.
Etymology : Pluralization of “Internet”
