[residing] off-campus. Brevity. Rice students always say “I live OC” which could well stand for on-campus, too, but everyone knows it means off-campus. It is so commonly used here at Rice. Since this distinction exists in all universities, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that OC is used elsewhere. The fact of the matter is, however, that the term is general and does not clearly denote off-campus vis-à-vis on-campus. Here in the Rice community, though, it is a commonly used acronym.
