Mountweazel

noun;
A trick in which a dictionary or encyclopedia company will create an entirely fictitious entry, fact or word and publish it, and then they will monitor the publishings of other companies to see if any have plagiarized their work and used the fictitious e This term was coined by the New Colombia Encyclopedia in their use of the name Lillian Virginia Mountweazel. The company created an identity for this fictitious character and included her in their dictionary and then waited to see if any other encyclopedias would plagiarize the entry. Since the character had no valid source, any company who published an identical or similar entry would have obviously plagiarized and could be prosecuted.

Using Mountweazel, the New Colombia Encyclopedia was able to find plagiarizers and eliminate the plagariasms.
