munge

verb; blending
to compress two items into one which is shorter in size than that of the combined parent items Type of word formation: Blending: combining the inner sound of one word “crunch” with the surrounding outer sounds of another word (merge). Reason used: Used to describe the process of combining two words into one. I suspect that “merge” was the intended word, but “crunch” was sitting on her tongue at the time and caused “munge” to come out. Example sentence: One way to form new words is to munge two words together, which would also be traditionally described as blending.
