umpto
ad012; folk etymology
A shortened version of the question, “Do you want to?” Type of word formation: Folk Etymology: as the phrase was repeated over and over again, its words were slowly crunched together for efficiency into the very simple sound “umpto”. I suppose, as the comic intended, the “folk” here would be rednecks. Reason used: To describe the tendency of “rednecks” to be lazy and speak as little as possible without losing conveyance of meaning. Example sentence: (As quoted by Jeff Foxworthy) “Jou catch a game tonight?” “Naw, jou?” “Naw. Umpto?” “Aight.”
Source : Used by Jeff Foxworthy in a stand-up routine to describe a word used by “rednecks.”
