fold

verb; zero derivation
to make several mistakes resulting in failure, usually referring to a performance It seems like the origin of this slang word comes from the traditional definition of the word “fold”: “to make compact by doubling or bending over parts.” The phrase “double/ bend over” is often used to describe a situation of pain or failure: “he doubled over in pain after being hit.” Thus, the similar word “fold” can be extended to describe a similar situation. It seems to be common among speech communities related to musical performances.

Be sure not to fold during your band concert.
