clamshell

noun; zero derivation
the body of a cell phone that can be flipped open and closed This word traditionally refers to the shell or a clam, or to a device with two hinged jaws. A cell phone with the flip open/close body is clearly a device with a hinge on one side and two movable “jaws.” Thus, the new definition for the word “clamshell” can be described as a semantic shift, extending the use of the existing word to a new domain, that of recent cellular phone technology.
