an economics major The person who made up suits probably wanted to emphasize the fact that ecomics majors will have to wear a suit for the rest of their lives, and also to point out that they have to dress up in a fancy suit to make money.
 
We have been having some battles between the economics and the science and engineering majors. In the battle they even came up with pejorations for each other's major. The science and engineering majors now call the economics majors, 'suits.'
