unfortunatism

noun; derivation
An unlucky or ill-omened occurrence. Coined as noun equivalent for "unfortunate." It has been suggested that the word should more properly refer to an unfortunate utterance, by analogy to "colloquialism" and "truism."

If they run into any more...unfortunatisms...they'll really be in trouble.
Etymology : un 'not' + fortun 'chance' + -ate 'A' + -ism 'N'
