laggot

noun; blending
Someone who uses a poor connection to the internet to play online games (esp. Quake) and complains when he feels it is affecting his performance. Presumed reason for coinage It was no doubt coined out of spur-of-the-moment need for an insult applicable to high-ping whiners; its creator must have thought the connotation of ‘faggot’ was applicable to the situation. This was the first time I encountered this word; I have since gotten a good sense of its meaning. I imagine it was coined some time in the fall of 1997, and originated on internet Quake servers. Notes Laggot is without doubt a strong insult; laggots are quite intolerable. Laggot comes from a blending of ‘lag’ (the definition of which is considered separately; see immediately above) and ‘faggot.’ Its meaning takes its specificity from the ‘lag’ and its derisiveness from ‘faggot’, which is here used as a general insult referring to someone who whines (unfortunately). This word is not widely used, but it has found a niche in the Quake community.
