Homosexual intercourse in youth slang always carries a negative connotation. The person wanted to really emphasize how far away she had to travel. She could have chosen to say, “I had to go to a dinner in the boonies” and had the same effect, but apparently the term is common in Florida where she comes from. Because of the shock value, it also carries more emphasis.
