Pleiotropic

adjective; derivation
Said of the multiple phenotypic characteristics that can result from a single gene.
 
However, their pleiotropic nature leaves open the possibility that their well-known differentiation, cell-cycle arrest and apoptotic properties are also involved in other functions associated with HDAC inhibition.
