fob

adjective; acronym
Fresh Off Boat. It describes a recent immigrant, esp. one from Asia. This is a somewhat offensive term that seems to capture the essence of a completely foreign person. “FOB” has the connotation of an immigrant who is actually incompetent in certain areas, esp. communication, not because of lack of intelligence, but because of lack of time. The people described by the term “FOB” often have trouble adjusting to many of the differences of American culture in addition to the language, and the word fairly bluntly presents an image that conveys the idea of someone who might be overwhelmed by their surroundings and unable to function adequately until enough time has lapsed to assimilate the new environment.

We get so many FOBs here, it becomes hard for the lab to act cohesively.
Etymology : "F” (for ‘fresh’) + “O” (for ‘off’) + “B” (for ‘boat’)
