an apathetic brush off of a person or statement or a declaration of falseness. apparent meaning: whatever, apathetic, false reason used: The word whatever already conveys a feeling of apathy or disagreement, but when it is shortened it sounds like the speaker is so apathetic that they are not even going to bother with saying the whole word.
 
In response to a suitemates accusation of eating all of the peanut butter, my roommate replied, “whatev.”
Etymology : Formed from a clipping of whatever.
