nubcake

compounding; noun
nubcake, N A player new to a videogame, or one that merely lacks the skills of others (generalized), also a derogatory name for another player (similar to nub) [compound of roots nub + cake]

Used as a derogatory name to another video game player, usually someone who is new or lacking in skill.
Etymology : This compound was formed from roots 'nub' (clipping, spelling change from 'newbie') and 'cake', which serves to further the insult. 'Cake' has a childlike, gentle connotation that serves to combine 'nub' with a root that means 'weak'. For etymology of nub, see its entry in the database. Cake comes from Old Norse Kaka, meaning 'a baked mass of bread' (OED). It has come to mean 'a sweet pastry dessert', and this gentle, sweet-tasting pastry idea probably came to represent 'person that is weak', which is the definition seen here. The player has now been called 'a weak player with little to no skill'. Like uses of other formulations involving 'nub', the word was coined as an joking insult to refer to a player that was just killed by the user.
