pride hooker

noun; compounding pride + hooker = pride hooker
pride hooker, n. one who will give up his or her pride for money

Pride hooker uses metaphor to extend the meaning of hooker as 'one who will give sex in exchange for money' to 'one who will give up his or her pride for money.'
Etymology : Pride comes from the Old English word pryto, from prud. It first referred to a group of lions (a pride of lions) but made a metaphorical shift, taking the sense of power and majesty and applying it as a noun. Hooker is most likely an allusion to prostitutes 'hooking' or snaring clients. It is often traced to the disreputable morals of the Army of the Potomac (American Civil War) under the tenure of Gen. "Fighting Joe" Hooker (1863), and the word probably was popularized by this association at that time.
