- Want me to make some cuppaccino?
Cuppaccino
noun; folk etymology
The espresso-based drink commonly known as cappuccino Folk etymology misjudges the derivation of "strange words" (Denning text, pg. 38), which are commonly also borrowed words from other languages. This is true for my mother's misjudgment of the Italian word cappaccino, with which she associated what cappuccino is most often served in-characteristic small cups.
Etymology : Cuppaccino. A folk etymology incorporating the noun cup into the Italian word cappuccino, an espresso-based beverage named after the color of hoods worn by the Capuchin order of monks (c. 1525)
