SLI has been used for various video card technologies for the last decade. It is used mainly by people who are well-educated in the details of computers. It is much easier to say than “scalable link interface” and over time, this noun has become common for the act of using “scalable link interface.”
Etymology : SLI. Initialism formed from scalable link interface. Scalable link interface is a brand name by the company Nvidia for the use of more than one video card. Through zero derivation, SLI has become the verb for the process of combining two or more video cards. Further, through generalization, this term now refers to the combination of any brand of compatible video cards.
