McHouse

noun; blending
a house that appears to be one of a mass produced lot of houses, all of similar sizes and styles

McHouse is a pejorative term used to describe a house that is one that appears to have been mass produced. It is a blending of “McDonald’s” and “house”. The manner in which food is produced in a place like McDonald’s is metaphorically linked to the way in which the mass produced houses all of similar quality are made. The term is used particularly regarding suburban housing developments, in which the houses are very much similar in many ways, lacking individuality and creativity. This term is related to the term McMansion, which likely preceded the word “McHouse”. McHouse is used to talk about smaller dwellings than McMansion, and thus is more applicable in many cases.
Etymology : McHouse is a blending of “McDonald’s”, a large fast food chain, and “House”. House comes from the Middle English word hous, from Old English hus meaning ‘dwelling, shelter, house’, from Proto-Germanic khusan, which is of unknown origin.
