The fans of Rice Universities singing group The Phils.
 
This word is a blending of the Phils and fans and is especially interesting because it is a homonym for the word fans but in fact means a special type of fan.
Etymology : Phans comes from + + . Phils being the singing group and fan coming from fanatic which comes from the Latin meaning "mad, enthusiastic, inspired by god" and s which is a pluralized ending.
