Going Dutch

When a couple on a date agree to split the check.
 
Clearly Dutch can refer to any cultural aspect of the Netherlands. This is probably one of their practices and people probably started to refer to it as going on a Dutch date which was probably eventually shortened to going Dutch.
Etymology : Going is the gerund form of go which comes from germanic and meaning "to direct ones way" Dutch comes from the Dutch Duutsch meaning "people, race, nation"
