ute

noun; clipping
a small pickup truck that carries a small number of passengers and has a bed for carrying goods. This is yet another example of Australians’ ability to clip anything and everything in their language. ‘Utility truck’ is obviously too much to say, so they have shortened it to ‘ute’. This is similar to the American version—‘pickup truck’ has been shortened to ‘pickup’ in many cases.

Josh can’t drive, because he’s only got a ute.
Etymology : Ute. Clipping of ‘utility truck’
