halfie (2)

noun; derivation
A person who is composed of two distinct races

'Halfie' is commonly used to refer to people of two or more races, typically by those who are of one distinct race. Thus, a differentiation is established in the eyes of people of one race, who oftentimes view 'halfies' as their own distinct race (which is actually composed of two races). For example, a Caucasian person might view someone who is half Caucasian and half Asian as a 'halfie' and neglect to even associate them with the Caucasian subculture at all due to their association with another race. The term was probably coined to provide an easier way to refer to those composed of two races. 'Halfie' the noun was formed from the adjective 'half', which refers to the racial composition of 'halfies'.The term carries a very neutral connotation, due to the neutrality of the root 'half'.
Etymology : Derived to form a noun from an adjective by adding the suffix -ie to the original root 'half'(from Old English 'side, part')
