phan

noun; other word formation type creative respelling
A person who is fond of the Rice Philharmonics.

One of several creative respellings by the Rice Philharmonics replacing the f in various words with ph. Used mainly in written contexts as this is the only way it can be noticed, though some try to use these respellings in speech by emphasizing the /f/ sound.
Etymology : Respelling of fan, which is a shortened form of fanatic, from Latin fanaticus, which has the Latin roots fanum “temple” and –atic “of, of the kind of”
