crouch cancel

verb; compounding
a defense to minimize of completely cancel the effect of an attack used during gameplay of "Super Smash Brothers"
 
This term is well known to individuals that often play the game "Super Smash Brothers" and may even be one used only within Rice, and therefore a shibboleth. It is a compunding of roots crouch and cancel whose individual meanings sum to give rise to the final definition. Crouch cancel is a motion a gamer carries out with their character in which the game character will crouch down in order to cancel the incoming attack. Therefore the gamers see it fit to use the aforementioned term.
Etymology : Compound of crouch and cancel. Crouch is probably from Old French 'crochir' meaning "become bent, crooked" or from 'croche' meaning "hook. Cancel is from Old English 'canceler' which is from Latin 'cancellare' meaning "to make resemble a lattice" which in Late Latin took on a sense "cross out something written".
