noun; clipping and some derivation
A person who might fill a role in the future, usually used to only to refer to potential students at a school.
 
Term seems to only be found to describe students looking at undergraduate programs and not other levels of education. Also, term is not universal amongst undergraduate schools, as a a student from another university had not heard the term "prospy"
Etymology : prosp; from prospective from French prospective from Latin prospect-, past participial stem of prospicere "to look forward", and -ive "adjective"; + -y "noun, diminutive".
