MMORTS

acronym; noun
Massively Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy.

If the word 'game' does not follow the acronym, it is assumed even though it is not explicitly in the acronym itself. This could be traced to the two widely known divergent genres of games: RPG's and RTS's meaning Role Playing Games and Real Time Strategy (games), respectively. RPG already contains the word 'game,' and for acronymistic aesthetics, it was desirable for Real Time Strategy games to also have a TLA (Three Letter Acronym)--thus RTS was born. 'MMORTS' still bears this assumed 'game' on the end. 'MMORTS' is almost a parody of itself because it is such a long abbreviation (though the actual words would obviously be much longer)--to the untrained eye it may look like meaningless letters jumbled together to mock other text abbreviations appearing on the Internet. However, in recent years MMORTS's have exploded in popularity (or at least the increased advertising for them would suggest that they have), so having a short(er) way of saying Massively Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy (game) is certainly useful.
Etymology : This is an abbreviation (acronym) for Massively Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy (with an assumed 'game' at the end).
