analogy metaphor
When two people are walking, one behind the other, and the one behind steps on the shoe.flip-flop of the other, resulting in a shoe uproot.
 
Metaphor. Comparing to the idea of a real flat tire where the car has to stop and fix the tire, much like the person would have to stop and fix his shoe.
Etymology : common phrase of a car's "flat tire".
