verb semantic broadening
The act of a spider descending from its web or an elevated surface by using its spinnerette to produce silk from which it can suspend itself in the air. As a noun, a web describes the woven silk trap created by a spider. The verb form refers to the descent of a spider using this same material that is used to spin a web (n.).
