noun metaphor/derivation
A handgun or rifle that is used primarily for shooting noncompetitively, often using a small and relatively inexpensive type of ammunition. Word comes from the onomatopoeia Plink “the sound made when a small, low-energy bullet hits a metal object such as a road sign, old appliance, or soda cans”
 
“I DO already have a .22 plinker, a MKIII”
Etymology : metaphor/derivation from the word plink “the sound made by a bullet when hitting metal”
