BFD

noun Acronym
Big freaking deal; something very important or urgent. 'BFD' is a noun phrase that refers to something that is very important and is an acronym formed by the initial letters of 'big freaking deal' (the 'F' can also stand for other adjectives starting with f that have a similar meaning but vary in crudeness). It probably formed similarly to OMG or LOL, appearing first online in chat rooms and instant messaging to decrease the amount of time needed to convey the expression, then began popping up in text messages, and finally in everyday speech. It is used, most commonly by teenagers or young adults in a very informal context, partly to avoid saying anything that could be offensive and also to exclude others who may not know the term (like parents) and therefore have a more difficult time following the conversation. It is generally used within a sentence as a noun, as in the citation, but can be used as a stand-alone interjection, although this is less common.
