Nuking the fridge

verb; folk etymology
When something that is ridiculous and out of the ordinary, usually in reference to films that are past their prime and/or have undergone changes since their initial appeal.
 
Colloquialism used by U.S. Cinema critics, similar in meaning to ‘jumping the shark’.
Etymology : From Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, where the lead character safely endures a nuclear explosion while hiding in a refrigerator.
