- Person answering phone: Yello?
Yello
blending; interjection
yes and hello, why are you calling, how can I help you?
Etymology : Blend of yeah or yes and hello. Yes is probably from Old English gea, ge 'so' + si 'be it!,' the third person imperative of beon 'to be.' Hello is one of a variety of similar hailing words used since the 16th century. It was possibly originally from holla! 'stop, cease.' (Etymonline)
