Gymania

noun; blending and clipping
An event with numerous activities taking place in a gymnasium; an event taking place at Rice University on October 29, 2005. The meaning of this term can be derived from the derivation of the word itself. The ‘gym’ portion of the word gives the location and the nature of the activities taking place (sports that can be played within a gymnasium). The addition of ‘mania’ shows that there will be numerous activities. As stated above, the two main pieces of the word have straightforward translations to the meaning of the word. ‘Gym’ alerts people passing by to the nature and location of the event and ‘mania’ gives light to the scale of the activity. Furthermore, the use of this neologism adds a factor of fun and novelty to the event. ‘Gymania’ sounds more exciting than ‘Many Activities in a Gym.’

This word was spotted on a flyer on the way to the Linguistics lecture on October 25, 2005. The flyer is advertising an event in Autry taking place on October 29, 2005. This event, according to the poster, involves many different athletic activities.
Etymology : Gymania is a blend of the words gym and mania. This is reflected in the meaning of the word. Gym has been clipped from its original form, gymnasium.
