Roomie (roomy)

noun; clipping; derivation; blending
Another word for roommate. The word is possibly a clipping of the word roommate followed by affixation with the noun forming suffix –ie. It is also possible that it is a blending of the words roommate and buddy. Regardless of its derivation, the word roomie can be seen as a more casual derivation of the word roommate that implies that the person being described is a roommate and also a close friend.

“I need to get some for my roomie”
Etymology : Clipping of room(mate) followed by addition of suffix –ie; Or Blending of room(mate) + (budd)y; Origins of word components- American English (roommate, buddy)
