A person who is inexperienced in a field usually referring to video games. The word is most likely a clipping of the word newbie to newb followed by a vowel reduction of “ew” to “u”. A nub is a person who generally lacks skill in a field, not just specifically someone that is new to a field. The word is often used by video game players as a form of insult to inform another that he plays poorly. Although most likely originating from video games, the term is now used in other areas in which usually there are acquired skills involved.
